Pope Leo XIV celebrates Mass in Metz

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass at Saint Stephen Cathedral in Metz on September 28 to conclude a four-day trip that included visits to Paris and Lourdes. During the liturgy, the Pope described the border city as a potential beacon of hope for Europe and the world.

Addressing the congregation, the Pope spoke about the necessity of choosing forgiveness and mercy over revenge, stating that those who seek vengeance are not stronger than those who forgive. He suggested that Europe can begin anew starting from Metz, which he noted is a city shaped by a history of wars and disputes.

He told the people that reconciliation requires the courage to break the cycle of resentment and that love for others is the only way to face injustice.
