Pope Leo XIV rejects assisted suicide in Lourdes

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV rejected the legalization of medically assisted death as immoral false compassion during a visit to the Lourdes shrine in France on Sunday. Speaking to approximately 150,000 people during Mass near the main basilica, the pope stated that what is legal is not always moral. He addressed the end-of-life debate following recent French legislation that allows adults with incurable illnesses to receive lethal medication.

The pope visited a care center for the sick on the sanctuary grounds and spoke to those experiencing severe pain. He told the crowd that every person possesses an inherent dignity that no law or algorithm can eliminate. He argued that the temptation to cause death under the guise of compassion must be rejected to protect this inalienable dignity.
