Pope Leo XIV delivers speech at interfaith meeting in Metz

Pope Leo XIV delivered a speech at an interfaith meeting at the Robert Schuman Conference Center in Metz on Monday, September 28. The meeting included addresses from representatives of various religious traditions and concluded with the signing of an Appeal.

During his remarks, the Pope stated that religious dialogue does not diminish identity but expresses it through simplicity and truth. He noted that following the example of Robert Schuman, a founding father of the European Union, people of faith have a responsibility to show that it is possible to build friendships and seek peace across borders.

Following the interfaith gathering, the Pope scheduled meetings with representatives from the political sphere, civil society, and the cultural sector. Earlier that morning, he traveled from the Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrenees Airport to the Metz-Nancy-Lorraine Airport, where he was received by local authorities before holding a private meeting.
