Pastoral agents and authorities organize in Yanashi to defend life and territory
First source report
Pastoral agents, local authorities, and community representatives met in the Yanashi settlement on October 26 and 27 for the Primer Taller de Pastoral Social. More than 30 participants attended the event to study human rights and organize community efforts to protect life, dignity, and territory.
The group included representatives from native and peasant communities, local officials such as the lieutenant governor and justice of the peace, school directors and teachers, and representatives of the ODEC. Representatives from the Oficina de Defensa de la Vida y la Cultura del Vicariato, the CAAAP, and Geni, a Verbum Dei missionary, also participated.
The sessions addressed how structural and cultural violence, including limited access to healthcare, medicine, education, and basic services, affects human dignity. Participants discussed the protection of indigenous cultural identity, ancestral knowledge, and traditional medicine. The training also covered issues of discrimination, family violence, and the rights of children and adolescents.
