Vatican Surgery of Pope Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV admitted to Gemelli Hospital

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV entered Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Tuesday, October 13, to undergo surgery to remove a lung nodule. Matteo Bruni stated that the surgery follows the Pope's recent announcement during the Angelus that doctors detected the localized nodule during medical checkups.

A thoracic surgery team led by Professor Stefano Margaritora will perform the operation. Cardinal Baldassare Reina, the vicar general for the Diocese of Rome, is scheduled to lead the Rosary from the hospital.

The hospitalization has caused the Vatican to cancel all papal audiences through Tuesday, October 20. The schedule for the upcoming summit on Amoris laetitia is also being revised.
