Pope Leo XIV appoints 24 new members to International Theology Commission

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV appointed 24 new members to the International Theological Commission to study the nature of Church tradition and how the faith is transmitted through different cultures. The new group includes 16 priests, one religious sister, and seven laypeople. Six existing members will serve a second term.

The commission will divide into two thematic subcommissions. The first subcommission will study the meaning of Tradition, examining how it is determined and where it is found by using biblical, historical, philosophical, and scientific resources. This group will also review magisterial reflections on the subject from various pontiffs, ranging from Paul VI to the document Magnifica Humanitas.

The second subcommission will focus on the cultural forms used to transmit the faith. Among the new appointees are Argentine priests Fabricio Leonel Forcat and Jorge Alejandro Scampini, who both teach at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. The new members will serve for five years.
