Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV appointed Francisco Cota de Oliveira as the bishop of the Diocese of Itabira-Coronel Fabriciano in Minas Gerais, Brazil, on Tuesday, October 13.

De Oliveira transfers from the Diocese of Sete Lagoas. He succeeds Marco Aurelio Gubiotti, who was named archbishop of Juiz de Fora in January. Since that appointment, the Diocese of Itabira-Coronel Fabriciano has been led by diocesan administrator Father Pascifal José do Nascimento and the College of Consultors.

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil sent greetings to De Oliveira, noting he will become the seventh bishop of the diocese.
