Ignatius Ding Zuyao was consecrated as bishop of Haimen on Thursday, October 15, in Jiangsu Province, China. Pope Leo XIV appointed him to the position on August 24, 2026, following the approval of his candidacy under the provisional agreement between the Holy See and the People’s Republic of China.

The Haimen diocese had been without a bishop for more than three years. Zuyao is the ninth Chinese bishop consecrated during the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV and the 19th bishop selected under the terms of the Vatican-China agreement.

Born in August 1986 in Qidong, Zuyao studied at the Jiangsu Section of the Sheshan Seminary in Shanghai from 2001 to 2004 before earning a degree in philosophy and theology from the Beijing Theological Seminary. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Haimen on October 27, 2011. His previous pastoral assignments include serving as parish priest in Haimenzhen, Linjiang, and Caojiazhen, and most recently as parish priest of Qingnian Donglu parish in Nantong since February 2023.
