Vatican Journey to France

Pope Leo XIV arrives in France

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV arrived at Paris Orly airport at 9:56 a.m. on September 25, 2026, to begin his first visit to France and his fifth international trip. French President Emmanuel Macron and apostolic nuncio Archbishop Celestino Migliore met the pope at the airport. Following his arrival, the pope traveled to the Élysée Palace for a meeting with Macron.

The Holy See declined requests from the French president to hold a banquet or to visit Notre Dame, limiting the face-to-face meeting to the palace. During his four-day trip, the pope is scheduled to visit Paris, Lourdes, and Metz.

In remarks regarding the role of faith in public life, the pope stated that Christians acting according to their conscience should not be viewed as a threat to national unity or as proselytizers. He suggested that true secularism should value the religious dimension as an educational resource and noted that Catholics should not be pushed to the margins of society because of their faith.
