Pope Leo XIV celebrates Mass for 700,000 in Paris

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass for between 700,000 and 1 million people at the Place de la Concorde in Paris on September 26, 2026. The crowd extended along the Champs-Élysées toward the Avenue de la Grande Armée. Before the liturgy, the pope traveled through the Champs-Élysées in a popemobile to greet hundreds of people.

During the communion, approximately 3,000 priests, deacons, religious figures, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion distributed hosts. The ceremony included several French political figures, such as presidential candidates Edouard Philippe, Gabriel Attal, and Marine Le Pen, as well as former president Nicolas Sarkozy and Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. Parliamentary leaders Yaël Braun-Pivet and Gérard Larcher were also present.
