Pope Leo XIV receives participants in "Holiness in History" conference

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV met with participants of the "Holiness in History" conference at the Vatican Apostolic Palace on the final day of the event. Organized by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, the conference focused on the relationship between holiness and history.

During the audience, the pope thanked the officials, consultants, speakers, and members of the Dicastery for their work on the causes of saints. He noted that canonized holiness requires proof through authentic and credible testimonies. He highlighted the essential role played by diocesan historical commissions and the consultants working on ancient causes.

Pope Leo XIV referenced Pope Pius XI, an authoritative historian who established the Historical Section within the former Sacred Congregation of Rites to apply historical-critical methods to the causes of saints.
