Pope Leo XIV presided over a Mass for peace and justice at Saint Stephen’s Cathedral in Metz on September 28, 2026. During the celebration, the Pope delivered a homily regarding righteousness, justice, and peace, noting the Moselle region's history as a crossroads for different peoples.

Before the liturgy, the Pope toured among the faithful in an open-top car and spent time in silent prayer. Following the Mass, Archbishop Phiippe Ballot, the bishop of Metz, expressed gratitude and presented gifts to the Pope. The Pope then traveled to the Metz-Nancy-Lorraine Airport for a farewell ceremony from France.
