Pope Leo XIV receives icon of Our Lady of Good Counsel

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV received an icon of Our Lady of Good Counsel created by Chicago iconographer Joseph Malham. The Pope intends to keep the image in his bedroom.

Michael Airdo, a Chicago lawyer and longtime friend of the Pope, commissioned the work for a visit in August 2026. The choice of Our Lady of Good Counsel references the Pope's religious history. Before his priesthood, the Pope joined the Augustinians of the Midwest within the Province of Our Lady of Good Counsel in 1977.
