Pope Leo XIV leads Angelus prayer

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV led the Angelus prayer from the Apostolic Palace on Sunday, his first public appearance since being discharged from the hospital. Approximately 15,000 people gathered in St. Peter's Square to greet the pope, who returned to the Vatican one day after leaving the hospital.

The pope's recent hospitalization followed surgery on October 13 to remove a malignant lung tumor. During the prayer, Leo XIV thanked those who prayed for his health and expressed gratitude to the medical staff. He noted that the experience helped him feel closer to those experiencing illness and stated he will gradually resume his activities.

Reflecting on the Gospel passage, the pope urged the faithful to live without compromise, bad ambitions, or unjust interests. He encouraged people to prioritize the Kingdom of God and its justice, calling for a life of truthfulness and freedom to do good.
