Pope Leo XIV recognizes Domenico Pogliani as Venerable

Pope Leo XIV has authorized the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints to recognize the heroic virtues of Domenico Pogliani, granting him the title of venerable.

Born in Milan on December 18, 1838, Pogliani was ordained a priest on May 26, 1861. He served in Rosate, Lecco, and Trenno before becoming a coadjutor at the Milan Cathedral. As parish priest in Cesano Boscone, he established a children's nursery and a women's oratory. He also founded a healthcare institute that housed 400 people and included workshops and a ward for children with intellectual disabilities. Pogliani died on July 25, 1921.

The Pope also recognized five other Church figures, including Friedrich Kaiser Depel, a religious of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and founder of the Suore Missionarie di Gesù Verbo e Vittima, who served as the first territorial prelate of Caravelí, Peru. Additionally, the Pope recognized Salesian bishop Orestes Marengo, who served in India.
