Pope Leo XIV secures truce for Oleschky

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

A local ceasefire began on Tuesday, October 27, in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky. The truce is intended to allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the voluntary evacuation of the remaining civilian population.

Pope Leo XIV sought the humanitarian pause through telephone conversations with President Putin on October 16 and President Zelensky on October 19. The Pope requested that both parties cooperate to ensure the safe arrival of aid and the secure movement of residents in the Kherson region.
