Pope Leo XIV sends message to 170,000 motorcyclists at Fátima

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV sent a message to approximately 170,000 motorcyclists during the 11th Blessing of the Helmets pilgrimage at the Sanctuary of Fátima on September 20. The Pope, through the apostolic nuncio in Portugal, Andrés Carrascosa, encouraged motorcyclists to promote road safety and a culture of care by showing fraternity during their daily travels. The message also included a blessing for those working to protect life on the roads.

Cardinal Rui Valério, the Patriarch of Lisbon, presided over the pilgrimage and delivered the homily. He told the motorcyclists to view Christ as the direction of their lives rather than just a protection to be called upon during danger. He added that this perspective influences how they treat others and how they use their freedom.
