Pope Leo XIV to continue recovery in Vatican

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV is continuing his post-operative recovery at the Apostolic Palace rather than traveling to Castel Gandolfo, according to a Holy See statement on October 19. Despite his stay in the Vatican, the Pope is scheduled to hold the general audience in St. Peter's Square this Wednesday.

Stefano Margaritora, who led the medical team that operated on the Pope, told Vatican News that the upcoming apostolic trip to Latin America, planned for November 6 to 17, should proceed as scheduled. Margaritora stated there are no clinical reasons to cancel the trip, noting that the Pope's blood tests were normal and his heart function remained stable following his discharge from the hospital.

The lung is reexpanding at the expected rate following the surgery, which was completed without complications. While full physical recovery may take a few weeks, Margaritora suggested the Pope could be fully recovered within approximately 10 days.
