Pope Leo XIV to visit Uruguay

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to visit Uruguay from November 6 to 8, marking the first stop of an apostolic trip to South America. Cardinal Daniel Sturla, the archbishop of Montevideo, confirmed that preparations for the visit continue in Montevideo, Paysandú, and Florida despite the Pope's recent surgery.

The Pope was discharged from the Gemelli Clinic on Saturday following a lung operation performed on October 13. Cardinal Sturla noted that the Pope's surgeon, Dr. Stefano Margaritora, stated there are no clinical reasons to prevent the trip.

Volunteers and work teams are organizing three main events: a Mass in Paysandú, a prayer vigil at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, and an eucharistic celebration in Florida. Free tickets for these gatherings will be available for online reservation starting Friday, October 23, through the official website papaleonuruguay.uy.
