Vatican Surgery of Pope Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV to visit Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV may face schedule changes for his planned November trip to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru following surgery to remove a lung lobe due to a malignant tumor. While the Vatican has not issued an official confirmation regarding the status of the tour, the Pope underwent surgery in Rome to treat adenocarcinoma.

In Uruguay, where the Pope is scheduled to visit from November 6 to 8, Cardinal Daniel Sturla, the archbishop of Montevideo, said that confirmation of the trip depends on medical advice and the progress of the treatment. Sturla noted that if the current schedule is canceled, the visit could be postponed until at least after January.

The Argentine portion of the trip is scheduled for November 8 to 11. Alejandro Moral told journalist Iacopo Scaramuzzi that the Pope intends to undergo his medical procedures immediately to avoid canceling the November itinerary.
