Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV is recovering at Gemelli Hospital after undergoing successful surgery to remove a lung nodule. The Holy See Press Office reported that the thoracic surgery, which used video-assisted techniques to remove the lower lobe of the right lung, was completed as planned without complications.

An immediate histological exam confirmed the diagnosis of pulmonary adenocarcinoma. The surgical team, led by Stefano Margaritora and assisted by Elisa Meacci, Maria Teresa Congedo, and Leonardo Petracca Ciaravella, spent approximately 3 hours in the operating room, with the procedure itself lasting about 90 minutes.

Following the operation, the Pope returned to his room on the 10th floor. Medical reports indicate he has begun respiratory physiotherapy, started walking in his room, and resumed regular eating. Doctors stated that his post-operative evolution is normal and his values are within expected parameters.
