Pope Leo XIV to celebrate 100th anniversary of World Mission Day

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV will celebrate the 100th anniversary of World Mission Day in 2026. Using the theme "One in Christ, united in the mission," the Pope intends to highlight how Christian unity makes the Church's evangelizing work more credible.

The annual observance was established by Pope Pius XI in 1926. While previous themes from Pope Francis emphasized an open Church that reaches out to others through compassion and hope, the centennial message from Leo XIV focuses on the necessity of unity among believers to fulfill the Church's mission.
