Lira Diocese publishes reflection on popular devotions

Lira Diocese has published a reflection on popular devotions to help Catholics understand the role of these practices in spiritual life. Father Constanz Opiyo of the Commission of Doctrine authored the piece as part of a series exploring sacraments and sacramentals.

The reflection notes that while the Second Vatican Council established the Liturgy as the primary activity of the Church, the spiritual life of the faithful is also nourished by pious practices. The text explains that devotions spring from the religious sense of the people and can include activities such as the rosary, pilgrimages, processions, the stations of the cross, religious dances, and the veneration of relics.

According to the document, devotions that receive approval from a local bishop or the Apostolic See can help promote spiritual growth.
