Diocese of San Miniato restarts catechetical year

Diocese of San Miniato restarts catechetical programs for children and youth in local parishes this autumn. Don Udoji Onyekweli, director of the diocesan service for catechesis, stated that the year focuses on pastoral flexibility and moving toward more experiential learning.

The director noted that the atmosphere varies among participants. While new families often show enthusiasm and curiosity, those already involved in the program frequently worry about balancing religious education with school, sports, and other extracurricular activities. Don Onyekweli observed that children generally approach the start of the year with more lightness and curiosity than their parents.

Catechists face a mix of hope and concern as they prepare for the new term. According to don Onyekweli, these instructors must manage family expectations regarding schedules and lesson plans, particularly when working with new groups and families. The director coordinates these efforts alongside secretary Monica Martini and parish catechesis coordinators.
