Siena celebrates San Francesco with music

Hundreds of young people gathered at the San Miniato parish in Siena to celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi through music and art. The event, titled "The Night of the Saint," featured more than 20 choirs and musical groups from across the Archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d’Elsa-Montalcino.

The program included performances by two groups composed of inmates from the Ranza prison in San Gimignano and the Spirito Santo prison in Siena. A group of priests and nuns called "8x1000" also performed during the evening.

The Archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d’Elsa-Montalcino and the Diocese of Montepulciano-Chiusi-Pienza promoted the event alongside the national committee for the eighth centenary of the death of St. Francis. Cardinal Augusto Paolo Lojudice, Archbishop of Siena-Colle di Val d’Elsa-Montalcino, said the event encouraged young people to express their connection to St. Francis through artistic forms relevant to their generation.
