The Meaning of Leo XIV’s Pastoral Journey, as Told by Himself

Pope Leo XIV spoke during a general audience in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday, September 30, about his recent pastoral visit to France. He described the trip as a gift for both himself and the people of God in France.

The Pope used his catechesis to reflect on the trip, which he centered on the symbol of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris. He noted that the cathedral, which faced tragedy seven years ago, represents the theme of rebirth for his entire journey. During the first day of his visit, he celebrated Vespers of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the cathedral.

Leo XIV expressed gratitude to civil authorities, Church leaders, and the people who greeted him in the streets. He characterized his role during the visit as an apostle of Christ and a messenger of peace.
