Vatican Surgery of Pope Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV resumes work

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV resumed professional activities on Thursday afternoon while recovering at the Gemelli Polyclinic following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his lower right lung. During his second day of recovery, the pope met with Archbishop Paolo Rudelli, the substitute for general affairs in the Secretariat of State.

Medical staff reported that the pope's routine checkups were normal and a chest X-ray showed the operated lung is healing well. He has been performing daily activities independently, including a physical therapy session and concelebrating Mass in a room on the tenth floor of the hospital. The Holy See has suspended all papal audiences and events through Tuesday, October 20.
