Trump sends Pope Leo get-well wishes

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

President Donald Trump offered his best wishes and love to Pope Leo XIV on Oct. 14 following the announcement that the pope was diagnosed with lung cancer. Speaking to reporters on a tarmac in Bullhead City, Arizona, before boarding Air Force One, Trump noted that while cancer is a serious issue, the prognosis for the pope appeared to be good.

Trump mentioned his friendship with the pope's older brother, Louis Prevost, who met with the president and Vice President JD Vance at the White House in May 2025. According to Deborah Prevost, wife of Louis Prevost, Louis is currently undergoing treatment in a clinical trial for multiple myeloma. He was first diagnosed with the condition in 2017 and previously underwent stem cell treatment in 2019.
