Uruguay prays 3.5 million Hail Marys for Pope Leo XIV's health

The Catholic Church in Uruguay has launched an online prayer campaign to pray 3.5 million Hail Marys for the health of Pope Leo XIV. The campaign, titled 3.5M Ave Marías por el Papa León XIV, uses a number representing the population of Uruguay and allows participants to log prayers of one, ten, or fifty Hail Marys on a dedicated website.

The prayer effort follows a surgery performed on Tuesday, October 13, to remove the lower lobe of the Pope's right lung. According to medical reports, a subsequent histological examination confirmed a diagnosis of adenocarcinoma, a common subtype of non-small cell lung cancer. The Holy See reported on Wednesday morning that the Pope had a quiet night following the procedure.

Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to resume activities on October 21 with the Wednesday general audience. His upcoming apostolic visit to Uruguay remains planned for November 6, as the Vatican has not reported any changes or cancellations to his schedule for the following weeks.
