Pope Leo XIV to attend 54th International Eucharistic Congress in Sydney

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV will attend the 54th International Eucharistic Congress in Sydney, scheduled for September 24 to October 1, 2028. Auxiliary Bishop Richard Umbers, secretary general of the congress, announced the dates for the event, which organizers call Eucharist28.

The congress returns to Sydney one century after the city hosted the 29th International Eucharistic Congress in 1928. A theological symposium will take place from September 20 to 22, 2028, to provide a deep study of the theology of the Blessed Sacrament.

Bishop Umbers stated that the gathering aims to encourage Australian Catholics to rediscover the Eucharist as the center of Christian life and to draw more people to the Mass. The theme for the event, chosen by Pope Leo XIV in 2025, is "This is my body, given for you."
