Zambia Bishops Urge Youth Leaders to Take Active Role in Church and Society

The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) called on Catholic youth leaders to participate actively in the Church and society through responsible leadership, innovation, and community engagement.

During the 2026 National Youth Annual General Meeting on October 15, 2026, ZCCB Secretary General Fr. Francis Mukosa told youth leaders they should act as partners in the Church's mission and agents of positive change. Fr. Mukosa encouraged the implementation of resolutions from the 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly held in Nairobi in July. These resolutions focus on leadership, mentorship, digital evangelization, and youth formation. He also advised leaders to promote accountability, strengthen Small Christian Communities, and build spaces that offer young people support and belonging.

ZCCB Pastoral Coordinator Fr. Cornelius Chibamba opened the meeting and noted that the bishops decided to dedicate the 2027 Catholic Forum to young people. This decision follows the recent AMECEA Plenary Assembly. Fr. Chibamba said many young people are expected to attend the forum because their presence is necessary for discussions regarding issues that affect them.
