Briefing and sources: Hungarian Catholic Diocese of Győr presents book on its history between 1956 and 1960. Diocese of Győr

    First report

The book examines the history of the Diocese of Győr between 1956 and 1960. It uses archival sources, state security documents, Church records, and oral history interviews to describe the movement of priests during the revolution and the subsequent years of repression. The text details how decisions were made within the bishop's residence and the strategies the Church used to survive the methods of the state security services.

The work focuses on the lives of specific individuals, including priests, religious sisters, and a former state security officer, rather than providing a strictly institutional history. It covers the reorganization of charitable activities, relief efforts, illegal border crossings, and communication with foreign Church leaders. The research describes how individuals participated in the era through both active and passive roles, including cooperation or resistance.
