Latin rite metropolitan archdiocese in northeastern Mexico, erected by Pope Pius VI on 15 December 1777 as the Diocese of Linares (Nuevo Leon), elevated to a metropolitan archdiocese in 1891, and renamed Monterrey on 9 June 1922. Its seat is the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of Monterrey. It is one of the largest sees in Mexico, with more than five million Catholics.

History
Located in Monterrey, Nuevo León, the Archdiocese of Monterrey (Latin: Archidioecesis Monterreyensis) is a metropolitan see of the Latin Church in Mexico. Seven dioceses stand as its suffragans: Ciudad Victoria, Linares, Matamoros-Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, Piedras Negras, Saltillo and Tampico.
