The Diocese of Tampico is a Latin rite see in Tamaulipas, Mexico, founded in 1861 as the Diocese of Ciudad Victoria-Tamaulipas and renamed Tampico in 1958. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Monterrey, with Bishop Margarito Salazar Cardenas appointed in February 2026.

History

In Mexico, the Diocese of Tampico (Latin: Dioecesis Tampicensis) belongs to the Latin Church and sits within the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Monterrey as a suffragan see. Its origins go back to 12 March 1870, when it was erected as the Diocese of Ciudad Victoria-Tamaulipas; the present name dates from 25 February 1958. The original seat later became the new Roman Catholic Diocese of Ciudad Victoria in 1964.
