The Fuerza Aérea del Perú has presented a Mi-17 helicopter, nicknamed the "Papacóptero," to transport Pope Leo XIV during his visit to Peru from November 11 to 16, 2026.

The aircraft is part of the logistical and security arrangements prepared by authorities for the pope and his entourage. The helicopter can carry up to 24 passengers and is intended for use in difficult terrain and high-altitude areas.

The helicopter will facilitate travel to locations that are difficult to reach by road. For example, the flight from Chiclayo to the province of Santa Cruz in Cajamarca is expected to take approximately 35 minutes, whereas the trip by road can exceed 5 hours.

Pope Leo XIV continued his catechesis on the documents of the Second Vatican Council on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. His teaching focused on the relationship between faith and culture as presented in the pastoral constitution Gaudium et spes.

The Diocese of Culiacán is seeking help to locate Father Clemente Morales Topete, a 67-year-old priest who has been missing since October 24. He was last seen after attending a medical appointment in Culiacán, Sinaloa. He did not return to his parish, Cristo Resucitado, following the appointment.

Bishop Jesús José Herrera Quiñónez stated that institutional search protocols have been activated and the case has been reported to the authorities. The Mexican Episcopal Conference joined the search efforts, asking officials to collaborate in locating the priest.

According to official search descriptions, Father Morales Topete is approximately 1.80 meters tall with a thin build, short straight graying hair, and dark brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was driving a double-cabin pickup truck. He was wearing a beige long-sleeved button-down shirt, beige trousers, and brown loafers.
