A Leonine Program of Liturgical Renewal

Pope Leo XIV conducted a series of catecheses on the Second Vatican Council documents during 2026. The series, titled "Vatican Council II through its Documents," began in January following the close of the Jubilee Year.

The Pope dedicated eight Wednesday audiences between May and August 2026 to the study of Sacrosanctum Concilium, the Council's constitution on the sacred liturgy. During these sessions, the Pope described the liturgy as the context in which the Church receives life from Christ and encounters the mystery of Christ.

In his January 7, 2026, general audience, Pope Leo XIV stated that the Church should rediscover the Council by rereading its documents directly rather than relying on interpretations or competing narratives. He characterized the implementation of the Council's insights as an ongoing task for the Church.
