Pope Leo XIV to visit Peru

Pope Leo XIV will visit the Archdiocese of Cusco, Peru, on November 15 during a pastoral trip to Latin America scheduled from November 6 to 17. In a message released by the archdiocese, the Pope expressed deep sadness regarding the death of Archbishop Richard Daniel Alarcón Urrutia, who died on October 30 after a long illness.

The Pope described the late Archbishop of Cusco as an altruistic pastor who served the Church with unwavering fidelity. He offered his condolences to the family, clergy, religious, and faithful of the community, asking Archbishop Lizardo Estrada Herrera to convey them. Pope Leo XIV also requested prayers for the eternal rest of Archbishop Alarcón Urrutia and expressed a desire to pray with the people during his visit to Cusco.

Archbishop Estrada Herrera, who succeeds Alarcón Urrutia, recently coordinated preparations for the papal visit. He noted that the people of Peru await the Pope with joy and said the visit would help the Church remain close to everyone.
