Bishops elect Claudio Maniago president of Calabrian Episcopal Conference

Bishops of Calabria elected Archbishop Claudio Maniago as president of the Calabrian Episcopal Conference on Wednesday, October 28. Maniago, the metropolitan archbishop of Catanzaro–Squillace and former vice president of the conference, succeeds Fortunato Morrone, archbishop of Reggio Calabria-Bova, who has served as president since October 2021.

During the same meeting at the San Pio X Seminary in Catanzaro, the bishops elected Serafino Parisi, bishop of Lamezia Terme, as vice president. Giuseppe Alberti, bishop of Oppido–Palmi, was elected secretary, and Pietro Sergi, a priest of the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria–Bova, was confirmed as undersecretary.

Maniago stated that the new presidency will continue the work of Archbishop Morrone. Morrone has been appointed to lead the commission for doctrine, evangelization, and catechesis, as well as the liturgy commission.
