Brothers of St. Gabriel mark 125 years of education in Thailand

The Brothers of St. Gabriel celebrated 125 years of educational mission in Thailand with a Thanksgiving Mass on Oct. 7 at Assumption Cathedral in Bangkok. The anniversary commemorates the arrival of five missionaries from France to Siam aboard the passenger ship Annam.

Bishop Silvio Siripong Charatsri presided over the Mass, which was concelebrated by Archbishop Peter B. Wells, the apostolic nuncio to Thailand, alongside various bishops, priests, brothers, and religious. The liturgy, which included royal candles bestowed by Queen Suthida, honored the congregation's work in education and human formation following the spirit of Saint Louis Marie de Montfort.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn sent congratulations to the brothers for their mission to nurture youth. Queen Suthida, an alumna of Assumption University, noted the congregation's role in advancing academic standards from early childhood through higher education to help develop the nation's human resources.
