Catholic Bishop in Mozambique Challenges Faithful to Turn Works of Mercy into Sustained Service
First source report
Bishop Atanasio Amisse Canira of the Diocese of Lichinga called on the faithful to turn their Christian commitment into lasting service during a Mass on October 21. The celebration closed the First Diocesan Forum of the Pastoral Care of the Works of Mercy.
During his homily, Bishop Canira said that the gifts people receive should be used to meet the needs of their communities rather than being wasted. He stated that practicing the Works of Mercy is a way for Christians to fulfill their mission and responsibilities while awaiting the return of the Lord.
The bishop noted that serving the Church is a spiritual privilege intended to benefit others instead of providing material prestige. He said every believer has a role in the Church and should use their entrusted responsibilities for the good of the Christian community. He also reminded the faithful that they must remain aware of their obligations because they do not know when they will be held accountable for how they fulfilled them.
The forum took place from October 19 to October 21.
