Pope Leo XIV names Dom Paulo Andreolli bishop of Ponta de Pedras

Pope Leo XIV appointed Paulo Andreolli as the bishop of the Diocese of Ponta de Pedras in Pará on October 15. Andreolli, an Italian Xaverian missionary, previously served as an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Belém and held the titular see of Altava.

The appointment fills a vacancy in the diocese that began on February 15, when the previous bishop, Teodoro Mendes Tavares, was named bishop of Santiago de Cabo Verde. Andreolli will become the fourth bishop of Ponta de Pedras.

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) sent a greeting to Andreolli, noting his long history of missionary and pastoral work in Brazil, particularly in the state of Pará since 2007. The CNBB presidency, including Cardinal Jaime Spengler, expressed hope that his leadership will strengthen service to the people in the northern region of the country.
