Pope Leo XIV receives participants of the congress «La santidad en la historia» in audience

Pope Leo XIV met with participants of the congress "La santidad en la historia" during an audience at the Apostolic Palace. The event concluded a congress organized by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints held from October 19 to 21 at the Augustinianum Patristic Institute.

During the audience, the Pope stated that canonization processes must rely on serious investigation of documentary sources and testimonies that are authentic and credible. He noted that the lives of saints should be understood within their specific historical and cultural contexts to show how they lived the Gospel in their own time.

The congress brought together experts to study the relationship between history, theology, and the processes of beatification and canonization. Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, opened the meeting by noting that holiness does not remove the human dimension of a person. Participants included Recaredo Salvador, Jorge Andreu, and Giovanna Brizi from the Diocese of Segorbe-Castellón de la Plana.
