Vatican Surgery of Pope Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV to be hospitalized tomorrow

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV was scheduled to be admitted to Gemelli Hospital on the morning of October 13 to undergo surgery to remove a localized nodule in his lung. The Holy See Press Office confirmed the hospitalization, which follows the pope's announcement after the Angelus that the procedure was necessary.

The pope was expected to remain in the hospital for approximately one week following the surgery. Due to his hospitalization, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle was set to preside over the Mass for the meeting celebrating the ten-year anniversary of Amoris Laetitia on Wednesday.

Despite the medical procedure, the pope's schedule for the day of his admission remained confirmed. He is also expected to carry out an apostolic journey to Argentina, Uruguay, and Peru from November 6 to November 17.
