Pope Leo XIV visits France

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

The bishops of the Permanent Council of the French Bishops' Conference released a message following the apostolic journey of Pope Leo XIV to France and UNESCO. The bishops described the visit as a moment of deep communion and joy for the Church in France and the country at large.

During the trip, the pope visited Paris, Saint-Denis, Lourdes, and Metz, where large crowds gathered to pray. The bishops noted that the pope's words and actions encouraged the faithful to focus on Christ, the dignity of life, and the unity of the human family. They also observed that the visit reached many people in France who do not share the Christian faith.

In a letter published by Paix Liturgique, commentator Vincent Trémolet de Villers described the visit as a spark for rebirth. The text suggests that bishops must now use this momentum to pursue renewal by addressing the needs of the faithful, specifically regarding the transmission of faith and effective catechesis.
