Igreja no Brasil to send R$ 2.921.575,76 to help families affected by earthquakes in Venezuela

The Church in Brazil is preparing to send R$ 2,921,575.76 to help families affected by earthquakes in Venezuela. The funds, collected through the SOS Venezuela – Solidariedade e Fraternidade campaign, will be transferred to Cáritas Venezuela to assist in rebuilding lives following two strong earthquakes that struck the country in June.

The money will support community aid, the reconstruction of homes, the recovery of livelihoods, and the purchase of essential items. According to data from the Escritório das Nações Unidas para a Coordenação de Assuntos Humanitários (OCHA) through August 24, the earthquakes resulted in 6,509 deaths and affected at least 1.3 million people.

Bishop Mário Antônio, the Archbishop of Aparecida and president of Cáritas Brasileira, stated that the funds are intended solely for the Venezuelan population and will not be directed to any political or individual institutions. He noted that the work of Cáritas serves to highlight the charity of the Church and its donors.
