The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) sent a message of prayer and solidarity to Pope Leo XIV on October 12, 2026, following news of his upcoming surgery.

Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, the Archbishop of Kinshasa and president of SECAM, signed the message on behalf of the Catholic bishops in Africa and its islands. He expressed the concern of the faithful across the continent and assured the Pope of the filial affection and constant prayers of the Church in Africa.

Cardinal Ambongo invited bishops, priests, and the faithful to pray for the Pope's health and recovery. He asked for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary to accompany the Pope through the operation and to grant him renewed strength for his ministry.
