Students write Gospel of John on campus sidewalk

Approximately 50 students from the Newman Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign wrote the entire Gospel of John in chalk on the campus quad on Monday, October 19. The group worked from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. to transcribe all 21 chapters of the Gospel by hand.

Junior students Conor Bergan and John Bierman led the project. Both serve as resident advisors at the Newman Center. Bergan proposed the idea, which Bierman then joined to organize.

The Newman Center serves the university's Catholic student population and includes a residence hall for nearly 600 students. The project was shared on the social media accounts of Newman Hall and the Newman Center.
