Vatican delegation visits Malawi to advance plans for new Apostolic Nunciature

A Vatican technical delegation arrived in Malawi on October 6 to advance plans for constructing a new Apostolic Nunciature. The three-day mission, which concludes October 8, involves meetings with local architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to determine how to build a permanent residence for the papal representative.

The delegation includes Andrea Filippi from the Secretariat of State and architect Michele Caltabiano from the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See. They are accompanied by Archbishop Gianluca Perici, the Apostolic Nuncio to Malawi and Zambia. Currently, the Nuncio resides in Zambia while serving both nations.

Auxiliary Bishop Vincent Frederick Mwakhwawa of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe and Monsignor Dario Pavisa, the counselor of the Apostolic Nunciature in Malawi, welcomed the envoys. The project is intended to provide a permanent home for the Nuncio and strengthen diplomatic and collaborative ties between the Holy See and the government of Malawi.
