Pope Leo XIV to visit France

First source report

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV is visiting France from September 25 to 28, traveling to Paris, Lourdes, and Metz. During the trip, the pope will meet with young people, government officials, migrants, the sick, and representatives from various religious communities to discuss artificial intelligence, immigration, and the current state of the Catholic Church in France.

The visit begins on September 25 with the first papal liturgy held at Notre-Dame de Paris since the 2019 fire. The pope will preside over solemn vespers alongside priests, religious, and seminarians inside the restored cathedral. On Saturday, September 26, the pope is scheduled to celebrate Mass at the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Authorities closed registration for this event after 600,000 people signed up to ensure security.

Pope Leo XIV is the third reigning pope to visit both Paris and Lourdes, following St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI. This trip marks the first apostolic visit to France by a pope since Benedict XVI visited in 2008.
