Pope Leo XIV promotes social friendship

Pope Leo XIV advocates for social friendship as a way to build a more human society, according to his encyclical Magnifica humanitas. The Pope suggests that creating a truly human society requires restoring dialogue, the common good, and the ability to form relationships even among people with differing views. He emphasizes the importance of disarming words before beginning any negotiations, stating that peace begins with how people look at, listen to, and speak to one another.

The Pope's teachings were a central theme at the IV Fratelli tutti Meeting held in Rome from September 10 to 12. The meeting, which focused on North-South socio-environmental dialogue, was organized by the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, the Latin American Episcopal Conference (Celam), and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Participants included representatives from episcopal conferences, international organizations, banks, foundations, unions, business chambers, universities, and organized communities from across the Americas.
